Willie Mae 'Big Mama' Thornton (1926-1984) cantaba, tocaba la armónica y la batería. No fue muy exitosa y sin embargo, en 1952, grabó "una cancioncita" de Jerry Leiber y Mike Stoller llamada Hound Dog que, cuatro años más tarde, llevaría a Elvis Presley a la cima del mundo.
